    Claire Russ

    Claire Russ trained at the Laban Centre, London in the 1980s. Her work spans TV, Commercials, Stage works – musical theatre, opera and straight theatre, hair and fashion industry, plus contemporary film and site specific installation.

    Choreography credits include: IN/Vocation (Drill Hall 2009 – one woman show by Peta Lily), King for a Day (Orleans Gallery and Garrick Temple, Richmond 2009 – dir Claire McCormack), The PiRats of the Caribbean (Mercury Theatre, Colchester 2008 – dir Janice Dunn,), Dove and Bulldog Broadband TV Commercials (Ridley Scot Associates 2006/7 – dir Mehdi Norowzian).

    In theatre: Gasping (Basingstoke Haymarket – by Ben Elton, dir Paul Jepson, 2006), Mary Stuart (Derby Playhouse – dir Usma Hameed, 2005), Pride and Prejudice (Good Company National Tour – dir Sue Pomeroy 2005), The Murder Game (Her Majesty’s Theatre, London – dir Paul Jepson, 2004), The Provoked Wife (Southwark Playhouse – dir Paul Jepson, 2003), Cinderella (Northampton Theatre Royal – dir Simon Godwin, 2002/3), Cherished Disappointments in Love (Soho Theatre - Assistant Director to Sue Parrish 2003), As You Like It (Bridewell Theatre – dir Sue Parrish, 2002), Tropic Island Hum Animated Film Launch (dir – Sir Paul McCartney 2000), The Mikado (Bolton Octogan Theatre – dir Andrew Farrell, 2000), Voyage in the Dark and Sweet Dreams (for Sphinx Theatre – dir Sue Parrish, 2001/2).

    Film credits include: award winning Candy (dir. Tony Fabian) and BAFTA winning Red Peppers (dir. Dominique Santana, assisting Stuart Hopps).

    Hair industry credits include: L’Oreal Colour Trophy (National Tour), and Hair Associates Trade Show (Wimbledon Theatre 2002).

    Television credits include: Gatecrashers (ITV 2003) and Pantomentary (BBC Northampton 2002).

    In Opera: Claire was apprentice to Stuart Hopps. On The Silver Tassie (English National Opera by Mark Anthony Turnage – dir Bill Bryden, 2003) and has an ambition to choreograph her first opera.

    Work with YMT includes: Peter Pan (dir Nick Stimson, 2008), Frankenstein (dir Nick Stimson, 2006/7/8) and Red Hunter (dir Vernon Mound, 2004/5). Charity performances include Dream Dance (Hampstead Theatre, for Human Rights charity Charter 88, to an original score by Daryl Runswick, 2002).

    Claire ran her own contemporary dance company during the 1990s called the Claire Russ Ensemble. Works included: Dangerous When Wet (1994), Sweet Boys (1996), Gourmet (1998), and [B&B]4 (1999/2000), VeilSAFE (Year of the Artist Award, 2000), and CODE ( Richmond Festival 2001). The company now create site specific works for new architectural sites for example Rock (2003) for Stirling Prize winning Alsop Architects and Queen Mary's University, created to lay a foundation stone for the new Medical and Dental Research Centre in Whitechapel, London. Other recent choreographic commissions include Miniatora for CandoCo Dance Company for the Greenwich and Docklands Festival 2006, and The Garden in Norwich City Centre Summer 2007 for Norfolk Dance.
